I’ve been Awarded, Threatened, and Possibly Seen.
Posted by SinisterDan on 10 February , 2007
In the month or so since I’ve brought The Reasonable Ego back to life I have realized a few things; some good and some less good.
Less good; The post that has generated the most views and the most click-outs was about Katherine Harris and her fifty-year-old boobs. Seize the day, people…you can do better.
Good (and startling); Apparently, some people are actually reading this. Since it would be more than a little counter-productive (and genuinely rude) to wax speculative about what these good people could be doing with their time I’ll just say one thing;
Thanks!
Now start taking your pills again, or fix that leak in your microwave or whatever, but thanks all the same. Now really, get your water tested for lead or mastodon droppings - seriously.
When I started doing this is it was for no other reason than I enjoy writing. I have now become interested in actually getting some modest traffic. Modest traffic, mind you – while I am greedy, I’m not generally greedy and stupid. In rebooting this blog I also installed a hit counter, expecting this to be both a humbling experience and an external verification of my general lack of appeal. On the older version of this blog, I had to engage in the self-flagellating practice of taking the sum total of all my hits and then subtracting my own visits from that amount. While I won’t give away what my average daily fresh hits were, the number within a fraction of; “hideously few, you loser”.
Please don’t misunderstand me; I’m not yet a threat to Drudge (not say, like being fair or truthful is). In the last month my
average daily traffic has been insufficient to field both the offense and defense of an NFL team. It occurs to me at the same time that you could probably not find a less appropriate group for NFL recruits than your average bloggers. On the flip side of that, most people in the NFL are either too busy being arrested, questioned by police or thanking the Jeebus for catching a ball. Just a note for future reference; as good as Peyton Manning is, he is not the Jeebus. I’m willing to accept being proved wrong on this but beating the Patriots in the AFC championship does not yet qualify as a divine act.
The vast majority of my traffic comes from BlogMad, but I wouldn’t wager that too many of these are reading anything (maybe I’m wrong). You got your point for visiting, and you’re moving on…I guess calling it BlogWhore might have been offensive.
Hi, my name is Sinister Dan and I just bit the hand that feeds me.
It bears mentioning that some have contributed directly to my modest traffic by blogrolling me. First among these must be Paul Gorbould over at Gor[b]. Paul is a professional, and he writes like one. His topics and the delivery of them are made instantly legitimate; his pedigree as a real journalist is evident from the author and his work and it annoys me to no end. For what it’s worth, whatever pain or pleasure you get from my blog should be laid partially at his feet, since he publically excreted on me for letting this blog lapse.
Two people, both relatively unknown to me have been kind enough to link to their blogs to mine. The first came from A Twist of Humor (great blog, lighthearted, straightforward fun), and then from the considerably more perplexing but very enjoyable Helsinblog. The author of Helsinblog was so impressed with my skills that he condemned me to die. That’s a lie I can live with.
Just minutes ago another was added to the roll for leaving a very insightful comment and leading me to his equally insightful, funny and entertaining blog…say hi to Mattress Police – The Secret Files.
All of which brings me to the first award ever issued to this blog by anyone other than me when I’m drifting off to sleep at night. Culture Kills,… wait, I mean cutlery is the kind of blog that deserves to be read. I know the author from some previous online excursions, and they just don’t come much more clever or quick-fire than him. His ability to digest the vast torrent of pop culture that he does on a daily basis stuns me, and his off topic stuff is pretty keen too.
To highlight his skills, (or the fact that it was a slow week) Matt has shown the deep wisdom to recognize The Reasonable Ego with the Week 39 Homer Simpson Pageant of the Transmundane. Sadly, this incredibly long title will not fit on a business card in print legible to human eyes, but the two banners of recognition that accompany the prestigious HSPOTT v39 will fit nicely here;

…and here in fitting with my topic of Bill Bixby’s ghost and the Ultimate Haberdasher. I am the greatest person ever for precisely seven days.

Whenever I arrive here via BlogMad, I always stick around to read if you have anything new. I’ve lurked here before. I think this is my first comment. I know you gave me a great compliment after the whole review fiasco. :D
I’m absolutely not adverse to adding you to my list of Linky Love if you’re interested. You’re worth the cyber-love! :)

How could I say no to Linky Love? Wow, I feel warm all over just having typed it…
You’re on the roll, and thanks for reading.

Consider yourself Linky Loved! :) Feelin’ all warm n’ fuzzy myself. LOL Thanks for the return love!

I found you via blogmad as well. And despite me being very picky about who I put on my blogroll, this entry inspired me to let you make the first cut. I think I’ll enjoy myself here.
Then again, if it starts to suck, I’ll bail. Just don’t suck, ok?
Trish is good peoples, too. She recently made the cut.

Gosh, that’s about the nicest thing anyone’s ever written about me. It makes me highly suspicious - do you need money again?
Considering your last description was, what was it… “a total bastard and his blog looks like an old sofa?” (Though that last part fits MC better than me) …I’ll take it. Eventually someone will see through my “I’m a journalist so my writing must be valid” bit. If so, I better try out BlogMad too.

K.. NOW you’re in my blogroll.. thought I had added you.. must’ve been in my feverish haze.. could have SWORN I added you.. then looked.. not there. Added you again, blooger insisted I hadn’t signed in and I lost it again.. so NOW you’re there. I hope. Fak. Blooger can bite my lily-white ass. ;)
Oh, and don’t believe Ben.. I’m not on his blogroll.. but YOU are. Pfft. LOL

Yes, I agree my blog does look more like a sofa, it is true, because on some level, you have to have some gall(or a pluralized rhyming word) to go with tartan plaid.

Ben - Thanks, you’re on the roll now as well. I’ll try not to suck.
Paul - Don’t need money, but I would like you to live up to your end of the agreement and have those pictures destroyed.
Trish - Thanks, thanks and thanks.
Matt - Tartan speaks volumes, especially *that* tartan.

Sorry Trish–now rectified. You were bookmarked, if it’s any consolation. You’re on full roll status now. :-P

Great post - as usual. You’ve totally inspired me - to fix my microwave.
