The Reasonable Ego

The Sun Also Rises.

…but on schedule and without applause…

This is a lot shorter than a normal entry, but you can thank me for that later. A large news item of note has just taken place, although I can’t explain why it would be qualified as either.

In a move that surprised no one except time travelers from 1956, it was announced this weekend that former First Lady and current Senator Hillary Clinton (D-State of Constant Repositioning) will be forming an exploratory committee to run for President.

The news ticker on MSNBC (motto; Fiercely Fourth!!) also announced that the sun had not only risen this morning, but was also expected to set sometime this evening. Several pundits were no doubt on the line to explain exactly what the hell the sun was thinking, but were pre-empted for Hillary and the people she is paying to have herself explored.

I understand that the exploratory committee is a legal requirement, but Hillary has been the presumptive nominee since 2004. I am not exaggerating when I note that she has been considered the presumptive nominee by some news pundits and political experts since the live coverage of the concession speech of John Kerry (D-Won’t Shut Up).

I wonder sometimes if the announcements that seem obvious to me are more of a surprise for people who don’t watch this stuff as much as I do. As I explained before, I have near obsessive compulsive behavior where American politics are concerned and I might just be taking in so much bloated punditry that I react this way. (In my mind’s eye I see myself swallowing James Carville whole…ewww.).

Well, good for Hillary and at least she’ll be the topic of conversation on the Sunday shows instead of Barack Obama.

Does it bother any of you that her announcement of an exploratory committee for a run that everyone already knew she would make bounced the news that an American army helicopter crashed and killed 13 people in Iraq?

Yeah, me too.
